Managing Registered Workspaces
As an admin, you are solely responsible for managing the registered workspaces for your team. This involves making Git repositories available to your team members and removing them when no longer needed.
Registering a New Workspace
To make a Git repository available to your team:
- Access Workspace Settings: Navigate to the Settings modal (usually accessible via your profile in the Top Bar) and select the "Workspaces" tab.
- Click "Register Workspace": Locate and click the "Register Workspace" button.
- Enter Details:
- Workspace Name: Provide a descriptive name for the workspace (e.g., "Project X Automation").
- Repository URL: Enter the full URL of the remote Git repository (e.g.,
https://github.com/your-org/your-repo.git).
- Confirm Registration: Click the "Register" button in the modal.
The newly registered workspace will immediately appear in the "Workspaces" section of the Sidebar for all team members, showing a "Setup" button next to it.
Using Naming Conventions for "Published" Scripts
While Paracore does not have a dedicated "publish" button, admins can use clear naming conventions for registered workspaces to indicate which repositories contain stable, user-ready scripts versus those intended for ongoing development. This acts as a powerful way to "publish" scripts to your users.
Examples:
- Development Workspaces: You might register a repository as
ProjectX-DevorFeatureY-InProgress. These are typically wheredevelopers will work and push their branches. - User-Ready Workspaces: Once a set of scripts is stable and approved, you can register a separate repository (or a specific branch of a repository) as
ProjectX-UserorFinal-Automation-Scripts. Users can then be instructed to clone and update from these specifically designated workspaces.
This approach allows users to easily identify and access the approved automation tools, while developers can continue their work in separate, clearly marked development environments.
- Workspaces ending with
-dev: Visible only toadminanddeveloperroles. - Workspaces ending with
-user: Visible only toadminanduserroles. - Workspaces without a specific postfix: Visible to all roles.
admins: Always see all registered workspaces, regardless of postfix.
Deleting a Registered Workspace
To remove a Git repository from your team's list of registered workspaces:
- Access Workspace Settings: Navigate to the Settings modal and select the "Workspaces" tab.
- Locate Workspace: Find the registered workspace you wish to delete in the list.
- Click "Delete" (🗑️): Click the trash icon next to the workspace name.
- Confirm Deletion: A confirmation dialog will appear. Confirm the action to permanently remove the workspace registration.
Important Notes:
- Deleting a registered workspace does not delete any local clones of that repository from team members' machines. Team members will need to remove their local clones separately.
- This action is irreversible and removes the workspace for the entire team.
